Visit Watkins Glen - It Is A Real Gem
Happy New Year Secluded Glenders!
Watkins Glen is the epitome of an enchanting secluded glen that we covet. Imagine you walking through a cool ravine that dips into a glen where a running creek is fed by a waterfall that overhangs the trail. That is Watkins Glen in a nutshell and there is so much more in the surrounding area as you are in Watkins Glen State Park in New York.
Watkins Glen State Park
To get to Watkins Glen you have to first make your way to Watkins Glen State Park. This park is within the Finger Lakes located in western New York state in the southern end. Fly to New York City and rent a car for a nice scenic drive there.
The address:
1009 N Franklin Street
Watkins Glen, NY 14891
Watkins Glen Trail and Rainbow Falls
First walk through the front entrance and make your way along the trail. You will encounter Jacob's Ladder which is a series of stone steps with stone guard rail walls up the hill.
Cover your cameras and yourselves as it can get quite wet as you walk underneath the left waterfall.
Once you make it through under the Rainbow Falls you are all clear to head up to the overpass bridge. The bridge is the perfect spot to view the glen on both sides of the curve. You get three perspectives of looking back the path you came, the other side of the glen, and the path forward.
Summary:
The surrounding area has a lot to offer with different things depending on the time of year. Make it a road trip and see the Big Apple (aka New York City), and head up state to check out the canals of America. You can even rent a boat and dock at villages where you go up river all the way to the Great Lakes. The Watkins Glen State Park has plenty of wildlife and sightseeing to see. I hope you enjoy.

can you swim there?
ReplyDeleteYou can not swim at Watkins Glen, it is too jaggedly anyways. However, just to the south there is the Havanas Glen park and you can swim in the pool underneath the waterfall. However, it is cold so jump in if you don't my the chilly water!
