Visit Kauai - An Entire Island of Secluded Glens
The State of Hawaii is made up of a chain of volcanic islands with the longest on the southern edge. There are five main islands and four are visited the most. The largest, called Hawaii is still active is a slowly oozing shield volcano. It is actually the tallest and largest mountain on Earth from its base. In fact, the Hawaiian Island chains sits over a hot spot on the Earth's Pacific crust, it's a soft area in the middle of the largest tectonic plate on Earth far away from the major fault lines. Hawaii as a chain is still growing. lava oozes out not just on the Big Island but to its south. Two more islands are building up underneath the ocean. In 10,000 years, one of those volcano islands will break through the surface and Hawaii will have a new island.
As the Earth's crust shifts and the hotspot stays the same, the older islands are on the far northwest whereas the newer ones including the undersea ones are Southeast. Kauai and Oahu are older so they have more smoothed out mountains. Maui and Lanai are inbetween smooth and jagged mountains. The Big Island has a lot more jagged and rising features.
Kauai is the most remote of the large islands you can visit. It is less inhabited and has a lot more trails and secluded glen areas. See below as an example where we take you on a journey to the Secret Beach of Kauai, as known as Kauapea Beach.
Find The Secret Beach
We start heading north and arrive on a parking area on the north side of the island. You see a grand view of vistas and forest jutting downwards right up to the ocean!
As you make your way to the ocean, you find the Secret Beach of Kauai! Yes, it is large and secluded plus filled with lush sand, none of that rocky pebble or volcanic dirt sand that affect some other beaches. Congratulations, you made it to one of our official Secluded Glen spots of the world!
Where To Stay
Kauai has great places to stay and you won't be overwhelmed by tourists. The island has a few resorts and small towns to visit. The food is awesome and the people are so nice. The Hawaiian culture and hospitality is in full spirit here. You can also rent Airbnb as well. Hotels.com usually has the best deals for hotels and resorts. They also have one off house and condo rentals.
You enter actual caves as the stream cuts through an created a small cave tunnel through the mountain! Talk about an unique and secluded glen activity to do!
How Do You Get There?
Best way to get to Kauai is via flight. Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest, United, American Airlines, and Alaskan all fly there from the continental United States. A variety of Asian and Oceania airlines fly there from the West and South. You can take a cruise ship there but that will take a week or more on pure ocean sailing. Adventurous souls sail to Kauai as well, that will take at least 2 weeks from places like Australia, New Zealand, China, and the West Coast of the United States.
Conclusion
Kauai has such a secluded vibe that we decided to call the entire island a Secluded Glen! The rich traditions of Hawaiian culture with its own Kauai twist along with the setting makes this a paradise on Earth. The climate is temperate and tropical year round so it never gets hotter than low 80s Fahrenheit and colder than 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Kauai has something to offer families, individual travels, and for couples. This island has something for everyone! We hope you make it there.
