How Do You Get There?
There are two main airports in Costa Rica. You can fly into the capital San Jose or Iberia. Both have flights from the U.S. and Europe. They are both about equal distance.
There are a variety of choices to see the Arenal area. You can rent your own car. You can take a bus or cab. One of the more novel ways is to hire a guided driver tour where it will be your driver and up to 6 passengers depending on the company. There are several companies that do this and have come highly recommended.

La Fortuna
La Fortuna is a small town that acts as the gateway to the Arenal Volcano and Lake area. Here you can stay at hotels or go further in and stay at the Hot Springs resorts. There is one economical hotel closer in as well with a small pool and no frills amenities.
 |
La Fortuna Village |
We also encourage you take a day or two to explore this village and visit the La Fortuna Waterfall. It is an honorary secluded glen destination as it is not a glen but just as beautiful as scenery you will see.

There is a glen near La Fortuna as you head towards the Arenal Volcano. Check out the astounding secluded glen below with the volcano in the background.

A Brief History of Costa Rica and Why It Is So Unique
Costa Rica is the world's largest country conservatory. The entire culture has a huge push for the environment. It is one of the few countries in the world with no standing armed forces.
There are more jungle per square foot than the vast majority of countries on Earth.
Costa Rica has some of the most diverse land animal, bird, amphibian, reptile, and plant life in the world. This is due to the rich volcanic soil of the land with two oceans to keep the temperature relatively stable throughout the year. This also means it produces some of the best coffee in the world.
Costa Ricans are welcoming people. They also produce some very interesting handcrafted jewelry,
bracelets in particular.

Arenal Volcano
For centuries, Arenal Volcano had an oozing magma hot spot underneath. This created relatively calm volcanic eruptions as seen below. The volcano has become dormant lately.

Arenal Volcano is currently a slumbering giant. One of the neatest things if you catch it is Arenal Volcano acting as a cloud cutter. Because of its sharp peak and fast rise feature dovetailed with a high preponderance of clouds that stroll by you can catch an occasional cloud that gets pierced by the volcano. The cloud can even look like the topping of a cake as seen below.

Canopy Tours and Zip Lines
What is life without adventure? Here at Secluded Glen we encourage you to take the road less traveled and to be adventurous. Have a little wanderlust too.
The Arenal Area Canopy Zip Lines are the longest in the world. You will get to experience the true meaning of flying through the air descending down mountains into lush tropical rain forests. Some lines go for over 10 stations as you descend the mountain. Of course you must be physically and mentally fit to ride these lines.
 |
Arenal Canopy Zip Line |
There are more calm canopy tours with guides that take to see and observe the local wildlife. We highly recommend these tours in addition to the zip line adventures.
Baldin Hot Springs
The Baldin Hot Springs is a great place to relax and tend to backs and feet sore from lots of hiking and walking. Bath in a variety of hot springs pools with misty warm natural steam.
