You Won't Believe This Blue Lagoon and Beach - Balandra
We are not talking about the same blue lagoon that Brooke Shields starred in a film. We are talking about a pristine light turquoise lagoon that includes a beautiful beach near the sleepy town of La Paz located in Mexico's western peninsula that draws similarity to the famous shoe sh Italian Peninsula.
Balandra Beach has an inlet that is calm and majestic. The waters are clear and either turquoise or crystal blue. This is one of the larger lagoons that can house a harbor for small sailboats but it is not touched by humans with any commercial docks.

There are a number of quality hotels in the city. Plenty of authentic Mexican restaurants. In addition to street tacos, burritos and fajitas platters, try some authentic cactus. Cactus is served with its flesh portion sautéed, it is a dish called Nopalitos. It has a fleshy texture and bland taste but you won't forget it!
Below you see the City Hall of La Paz. The city is quite extensive so it is far from a secluded glen. This is just a spring point so you can go over to enjoy the beach and lagoon. The architecture is superb and represents a Spanish history mixed with modern Latin structures. The city is filled with remarkable architecture for you to stroll through.

Find a bungalow to rent near the beach and you can be in the chair pictured below reading a book or even working on your tablet while sipping a margarita. Do this while the gentle waves drift through in front of you. The waves are often so low, especially in the inlet lagoon that you will feel like you are a quiet mountainside lake. Only you will have those palm trees swaying in the wind with the whimiscal cumulus clouds breeze by.
How Do You Get There?
You can drive south on the I-5 Freeway from the U.S. and pass through Tijuana on your way down the Baja California peninsula. You can also fly into La Paz and that is probably the best option. A more interesting way is to sail in.
Enjoy the nearby city of La Paz, officially known as Ciudad de La Paz, literally means City of La Paz in Spnaish. Founded in October 20, 1548, by Conquistador Captain Alonso de Mendoza, it was the site of an Inca settlement called Laja. Yes, the Incas made it up to Mexico from Peru. La Paz itself means Lady of Peace.

We now get back to the main attraction at hand. Don't spend too much time at La Paz. You want to hike through the outer edges of the lagoon. You can swim in its warm crystal clear water. Observe the fish. You can also kayak around as well. The beach side has white sand that we covet here at SecludedGlen.com. Finally relax with the horchata that your brought and the light tortilla chips. Take your pictures and videos before heading out of this majestic surreal setting.
We leave you with a final photo of the Balandra lagoon on a turquoise color, clear sky day. Until next time, may you find your Secluded Glen in peace!
