Siwa Oasis In The Sahara

Is it a dream? In the middle of the Sahara Desert, the largest desert in the world is a blue water body with desert palm trees.  Is it a mirage?  Siwa Oasis is the stuff of legends and it has the ancient history and lore to back it up.  Look at the magnificent image below to see this lonely blue and green patch in the endless sands of the Sahara.  It is especially enchanting to see it with the large glowing hanging over a desert dune.

Siwa Oasis Egypt In The Distance

Siwa Oasis in the morning is perhaps the most magical as you see the sunrise.  The colors of the sand and the horizon are a hazy glowing orange.  The area transforms into a sparkling yellow during high noon.

It is Siwa Oasis, the farthest and most remote oasis in Egpyt located approximately 342 miles from Cairo and 60 feet below sea level.  Siwa Oasis is marooned in the middle of the Western Desert portion of the Sahara.

Temple Of The Oracle

Fast forward thousands of years and you will see an area that is largely undisturbed by major metropolitan life.

Explore the vast enclave of clay and sand homes at Siwa Oasis that have been long abandoned to the sands of time.  Miracously there are a ton of desert palm trees behind the abandoned ghost town, enough so that it looks like a desert forest.

Siwa Ghost Town
The main part of this abandoned city is the medieval fortress of Shali, a mighty strategic encampment built to protect the water and surrounding area.  You can see the desert palm forest behind in the picture below as nature encroaches on the abandoned human encampment.

It is advisable to avoid going to Siwa Oasis during the summer months as the heat will be excruciating.  However, this Secluded Glen is merely for show and tell and not recommended to visit based on geopolitical and physical constraints.

Siwa is a true diamond in the rough.  We hope you have a chance to visit this Secluded Glen approved choice.
